We are proud to highlight our partners who are working on advancing their DEI initiatives. This month we are putting the spotlight on Rocket Travel.
Internally, they are building a culture of inclusivity and equity where everyone has the opportunity to reach new heights in their career and expand their knowledge while working alongside talented colleagues.
We recently sat down with Rocket Travel employees to learn more about working for the organization. Did we mention they were hiring? Learn more about Rocketmiles below:
Rocket Travel Hires:
Building a company of talented individuals is the primary focus for recruitment at Rocket Travel. Their teams are inquisitive, energized, and always working with a sense of urgency, hustling to launch and test projects. Data drives their decisions, informing everything from creative to business development. “We work with a sense of urgency, hustling to launch and test projects. Our team is worldly. We value unique cultures, languages, and wanderlust. And our team is growing,” says people operations coordinator, Carolina Xavier-Walsh, “We look for people who are genuinely engaged with their projects and who are motivated to show tremendous initiative in delivering great results. We love working with people who show accountability to their teammates and customers, and who want to learn and grow and experiment.”
DEI Plans:
Like most start-ups, creating the foundation of DEI is essential to maintaining growth and retention within an organization. Rocket Travel started its DEI journey in 2020 and is actively working to improve those efforts daily. “We know we have a long way to go, but we are committed to making lasting change and will do our part to leave Rocket a much more diverse place than we found it,” said Carolina. To create a more inclusive work environment, Rocket Travel has incorporated employee-led committees that work to make sure they are focusing on DEI in every aspect of Rocket. A new initiative they recently launched is implementing heritage celebrations, starting with Black History Month. This year for Black History Month, they plan to educate everyone at their company and highlight some of their great black talents. To further their diversity efforts, Rocket Travel has partnered with Holistic to help navigate the DEI struggles, and they have been working with Dr. Torie Weiston-Serdan in training for justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. They also recently started hosting a Trans-Affirming Best Practices Workshop, sponsored by Praxis Group.

Why RocketTravel?
We have a pretty cool team of leaders…
At the height of the pandemic, having a strong team of leaders is crucial to an employee’s professional development. Rocket Travel leaders have been showing that the well being of people comes first. They have been extraordinarily kind, and understanding to all pandemic struggles we are all facing. Their leaders are all on board with all DEI efforts, policy changes, and ideas/suggestions from everyone. “We laugh together, we cry together, and we work hard together,” says Carolina of Rocket Travel.
We adjust well to abrupt changes…
For some companies, transitioning to a virtual world can be challenging; however, Rocket Travel has had the opportunity to improve their productivity and create unique team experiences. “We actively try to check in with each other, promote virtual happy hours, trivia games, and promote safe distancing team/company outings when it is warm. We traditionally do an office Potluck during Thanksgiving. This past year we did a virtual Family Feud trivia game, and the whole company participated; it was a blast!” says Carolina, people operations coordinator for Rocket Travel. “During the summer, about 30 of us met downtown for a kayak ride in the river. Now we are planning an Ice Skating trip to Maggie Daley Park.” [for the winter months]
